About MBADiversity
Come, help us positively change this world.
One-stop access to quality, multicultural business talent.
Vision: To positively impact the world through education, business and community.
The MBADiversity Organization (www.mbadiversity.org) began as a grassroots movement in 2003 and has since evolved into a 501 c 3 inclusive MBA prep program and professional membership organization. With both American and international members, the organization has successfully created a new breed of multicultural business professionals who live life with passion and evoke positive change within their respective communities.
MBADiversity manages its global portal, its Fellows Program and global events, all targeting both domestic and international members.
>Summer of 2003: launched MBADiversity’s comprehensive portal to fill a void noticed from former application seasons. The portal has provided a level of transparency about the MBA process from three vantage points: prospective, current, and alumni MBA. It has also promoted the value of an MBA degree to millions of people across the world.
>January of 2005: the organization launched its Fellows Program- which includes a GMAT? Scholarship- the first inclusive, multicultural MBA prep program of its kind. Manhattan GMAT and Kaplan Test Prep(R) were the sponsors for the first year. The Fellows program is open to everyone. One of its goals is to also help under-represented groups.
>August 27th, 2005: founded the first Diversity Symposium & Social for the MBA community, which was held in Atlanta Georgia. Pioneering schools and institutions that participated in the Inaugural Symposium: The Wharton School of University of Pennsylvania, Goizueta School of Business (Emory), Haas School of Business of UC Berkeley, TMI Program at University of Michigan, and the Graduate Management Admissions Council(R).
>February of 2006: After successfully building a membership base of over 1350 and aiding hundreds of prospectives in business school matriculation, MBADiversity was ready to restructure. It has now become an accountable non-segregated, membership- based professional organization.
>April 21, 2006: The initiative was granted 501 c 3 status from the Internal Revenue Service.
>August 17, 2007: To address the quantitative rigor of business school, the organization partnered with Dr. Peter Regan, Founder of MBA Math and Tuck professor, to offer a ground-breaking quantitative preparedness workshop at the National Symposium. Over 90 prospectives participated in the first class.
>August 25, 2008: The Global Immersion Module, designed by MBADiversity to prepare members for international leadership and service, commenced for ten days in Shanghai, China. The GIM Design Team and participants in 2008 were: Ms. Soyini Taylor, Mr. Anthony Woo, Ms. Hana Yang, Ms. Jennifer Au, Ms. Megan Davis, Mr. Omatsone (Felix) Amoruwa, Ms. Sharonda Richardson, Mr. Steven Rodriguez, Ms. Nina Sui, and Ms. Danielle Howard.
WHY OUR PROGRAM HAS WORKED SO SOON
Since there are countless other programs that aid the younger generation at the undergraduate and K-12 level, MBADiversity has chosen to stick to its niche- innovation in higher education at the graduate applicant level- in order to concisely address the critical issues that hinder quality applicants that are ready for business school matriculation.
In a 2005 study by The Graduate Management Admissions CouncilĀ®, “What Leads to Minority Enrollment into B-school”, several critical issues were identified: fit, preparedness, financial resources and commitment. They found these issues were not anomalous; the determents were applicable to the entire applicant pool and not just under-represented groups. Combined with our organization’s empirical data, including in-house surveys, MBADiversity has pinpointed the details to include: lack of warm mentors and alumni (-ae), lack of math and class preparation, and lack of finances for comprehensive GMAT courses and school tuition.
Our specialized solutions, along with incorporating CQI (continuous quality improvement) in our practices, have helped MBADiversity and our members achieve our mission in a short period of time.
With the help of top Business schools, alliances, and companies, this organization helps clear the road and cultivates a successful and multicultural applicant pool, thus fulfilling a crucial niche in the pipeline.
The organization has a 3-pronged mission for its members:
For prospectives to successfully prepare for business school through our Fellows prep program and ultimately matriculate into B-school.
For current students and alumni MBAs to network and explore career opportunities at our events, serve as Mentors to our prospectives and become positive change agent as business leaders within their communities.
For Business Schools and Companies to utilize the organization as a means to promote their institutions, recruit talent and learn effective diversity recruiting and retention methods.
Bienvenue. Benvenuto. Welcome.
